Some 12 district police officers have been tasked to look after the programme, he said.

Members of the committee are Local Government Minister Agha Siraj, Law Minister Ayaz Soomro, Sindh Minister Sardar Ah med Khan and secretaries for local government, services and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) representatives.

He said that Punjab, the NWFP and Balochistan governments have rejected local government system while Sindh government would consider the proposals.

He said that the PPP wants the system to be run and governed according to 1973 Constitution and recommendations would be made in line with the constitution.
