LAHORE, Dec 23: A competitive six-event card has been drawn for the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

Four events will be contested over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres while the remaining two will go over 1,100 metres. The first race will be held at 12.30pm.

The Jhang Plate, class VI division I and II combined to be contested over 1,100 metres feature’s the card.

There are 15 runners of whom four -- Big Bird, Zoaq, Dream Memories and Bird Fly -- look on chance. On classification, the first three named should fight it out for top honours. Big Bird, though placed on top of the handicap, has a slight advantage on classification.

The supporting and fifth event, the Jhang Plate class VI division III and IV to be contested over 1,100 metres has nine runners, barring last-minute withdrawals.

Going through the current form and performance of the acceptors listed for the event, three stand out as real contenders. They are Stride To Moment, Murad King and Regulation. The distance suits the first two and handicap will go in favour of the third one. However, it depends as to how many would be on the job.

Having advantage on handicap and speed, Murad King though looks better in the three. The five-year-old mare Pretty Mehak is a consistent performer in the fourth race, which has the largest field of 16 runners.

After winning a race, Pretty Mehak was placed second five times and third once on December 17. Although she has gone up in handicap during her six defeats, one after the other, she should make amends this time and win the race on Wednesday.

Candidate, Best Owner and Sana My Love should fight for places on the board.

The quartet of Bobby Love, Sohna Murad, Anarkali and Shandar look good to pick up the spoils in the third race. The runners are tightly handicapped wich will favour the good riders.

The first and second race comprises runners belonging to the lowest divisions of class VII, who are known for their inconsistent performance.

Even the owners of horses taking part in these races are not sure how they would perform.
