Indian Sikh held from Nankana

SHEIKHUPURA, Dec 23: Sardar Mehander Singh who allegedly intruded into Pakistan from India and later came to Nankana Sahib was taken into custody by local police here on Tuesday.

Sources said he neither had a passport nor any other travel document to establish his identity.

Nankana police which did not give further details said the interrogation was being conducted. protest: Traders in Muridke on Tuesday observed a strike to protest deteriorating law and order.

The shops and other commercial centers in the town remained closed on the call of traders’ bodies to protest against the murder of a trader, Rafique Sheikh, in his Railway Colony house. He was killed while resisting a robbery bid during which his wife Surraiya Bibi was critically injured.

The traders and scores of citizens blocked the G-7 road, throwing the traffic out of gear for an hour.

The traders’ association office-bearers said the growing incidents of dacoity, theft and highway robbery in the area showed that police had failed to maintain law and order.
