GUJAR KHAN, Dec 23: The case regarding death of a young man, whose body was found lying in a jungle near the Sarwar Shaheed Government College, was partially solved on Tuesday when the victim’s relatives and friends approached the police and identified the deceased, officials said.

However, the circumstances in which the man died are still shrouded in mystery.

On Monday, the police had shifted the body to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospital and after an autopsy, buried it as unclaimed.

The claimants turning up the next day identified the deceased as Shaukat Hussain, a resident of Kronta village in Sohawa Tehsil.They said Hussain was in perfect health and he left his house on Sunday for Islamabad where he was working with a cellphone company.

The body could not be identified earlier as only two items – a bottle of mineral water and an Urdu-language newspaper – were found lying close to it.

In light of the post-mortem, an entry in the daily register of the police was made, which stated that the ‘unidentified’ man died a natural death, as there was no obvious sign of an injury.

Hussain’s relatives said the location where the body was found, a wooded area about 2km off the road near Gujar Khan city, made the matter suspicious.

It is pertinent to mention that on July 1 this year, the body of a young man was found hanging from a lamp post in Gujar Khan city. The police initially recorded the incident as a suicide, but later on the intervention of Regional Police Officer Nasir Khan Durrani, a blind murder case was registered.

However, the identity of the victim and the killers are still not known.
