SARGODHA, Dec 21: A proclaimed offender (PO) was killed in an alleged shootout with a joint team of Bhalwal and Kotmomen police team near Chak 21-NB, some 20 kilometres away from here.

According to police, the police team headed by Bhalwal DSP Matiullah Khan was formed on a tip-off that PO Imtiaz wanted in at least 46 cases, including dacoities and murders, was present in Chak 21-NB.

The police raided the tipped place and shot Imtiaz dead while his accomplice fled. Imtiaz with Rs100,000 head money had absconded from police custody after he was arrested previously and locals apprehended that the police might have killed him after capturing him alive.

ROBBERIES: Highway robbers intercepted a bus near Chal Chakian police station and snatched cash, wristwatches and cellular phones from passengers.

In another incident, highway robbers snatched Rs20,000 from the cashier of a CNG station on Lahore-Sargodha Road near Bhagtanwala. According to locals, the patrolling police was not on high alert in the area owing to shortage of fuel or mechanical faults in majority of their vehicles.

Similarly, many vehicles are being used by employees for their personal use, they alleged.
