SIALKOT, Dec 20: Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Ahmad Waqar has said that the board will soon evolve a tax policy with the sole aim to bring maximum people under the tax net.

He stated this while talking to media at Sialkot Dry Port Trust after addressing a meeting of Sialkot business community on Saturday.

The FBR chairman said that the broadening of tax net will help in bringing down the inflation rate to the single digit.

He said that in order to expand the sphere of GST and income tax, the government would take into confidence all the stakeholders and their suggestions would be paid heed to.

Mr Waqar stressed the need for revamping the tax-gathering system on modern lines incorporating techniques and policies prevalent in developed countries. He said that the social and economic growth rate would have to be increased, which would not only broaden the tax base but will also help alleviate poverty from the country.

Earlier addressing a meeting of local business community at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the FBR chairman stressed the need to promote production of non-traditional items in the province with a view to expanding exports.

He said that the present government had succeeded in restoring the confidence of foreign investors in Pakistan through introducing and promoting the investment-friendly policies and the investors had assured to bring maximum investment in the country.

He further stated that the government was making all out efforts for providing complete security and safety to the investors besides, helping the business community to have an easy access to the export markets.
