KOHAT, May 12: Additional Commissioner Syed Asmat Ali Shah Banoori adjourned on Saturday the hearing in an appeal of 26 members of the Tehrik-i-Nifaz-i-Shariat-i-Muhammadi, Malakand (TNSM), till May 29 against their conviction after the Kurram Agency’s assistant political agent failed to produce required record in the court.

The court directed the Kurram Agency authorities to produce the relevant record positively on the next date of hearing in Peshawar.

Meanwhile, a TNSM worker, who had been sentenced to one year’s imprisonment, was released after completing his concurrent term from the Dera Ismail Khan central prison.

TNSM Chief Sufi Muhammad, his son, Ziaullah, and two other party members, who were sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment, have refused to file an appeal against their conviction, terming the court un-Islamic.

They also refused to accept their conviction by a tribal court and did not sign the judgment in protest. They were convicted in the Dera Ismail Khan prison on April 2 of carrying illegal heavy weapons and crossing into Afghanistan without valid travelling documents.
