Call for changes in Sindh Tenancy Act

MIRPURKHAS, Dec 18: A large number of peasants and political activists who held a rally here on Thursday demanded amendments to the Sindh Tenancy Act to protect peasants’ rights.

The rally led by Sindh Hari Porhiyat Council president Punhal Sario and Awami Party leaders Taj Mari and Ghulam Hussain Malano started from railway station chowk and terminated at post office chowk the after marching on main thoroughfares.

The leaders demanded that the government distribute government land among landless peasants in a judicious manner and urged the authorities to make amendments to the Sindh Tenancy Act to protect peasants’ rights.

They demanded that price of flour and other essential commodities be reduced, judicious distribution of water up to tail-end areas be ensured and reforms in agriculture sector be introduce.

ROAD BLOCKED: A large number of people from of different villages blocked the Umerkot-Mirpurkhas road near Mirpurkhas sugar mill in protest against suspension of power supply for five days.
