LAHORE, Dec 17: A ‘love triangle’ turned fatal when a young man allegedly gunned down his teenaged ‘girlfriend’ and her tutor and later committed suicide in tutor’s guestroom in Dak Khanewali Gali in Daroghawala on Wednesday, witnesses and police said.

The assailant happened to be a lawyer had an affair with the graduation student and wanted marrying her, but parents of the 18-year-old had disapproved of the proposal, a suicide note recovered from the pocket of the assailant revealed. His suspicion that the tutor was the main hurdle in his way to find his love led to the shooting, claiming the lives of all three actors of the triangle.

Sidra Siddique, of Main Bazaar Naqashbandi Daroghawala, had gone to the house of her tutor, Qazi Najam Mahmood, situated in a street next to her street, where her ‘boyfriend’ Noorul Hasan attired in lawyers’ uniform turned up with a pistol. He first shot at 27-year-old Najam and then Sidra from a close range, killing both of them on the spot. To end his life, Hasan later fired a single bullet in his head.

Inspector Farman Ali, the investigation officer (IO) who took the bodies to the morgue for autopsies, told Dawn that Hasan had been living in the street where Sidra lived and had developed ‘understanding’ with her.

Later, he had shifted to a rented house in Tajpura Scheme but used to visit Sidra’s house, the IO said while quoting girl’s mother.

He said the assailant fired only three bullets and the police had seized the pistol used from the crime scene.

Khalid Bashir, who witnessed the bodies and informed the police, told Dawn that Najam, unmarried so far, was teaching in his school in Salamatpura for the last nine years and would also teach students at his rented house in Daroghawala.

“I took my friend along to visit Najam to discuss new school uniform for students. After reaching Najam’s house at around 3:45pm, we found guestroom’s outer door in the street open and later spotted Najam and two others lying dead with bullet wounds and a pistol lying near the stranger man,” he said.

Bashir said he immediately knocked at the door of the house and asked Najam’s sister-in-law about the matter but she expressed her ignorance about the incident or having heard any gunshots. “I then informed the Rescue-15 Police,” he added.Bashir said according to his information, the victim girl had been Najam’s student for the last one and a half month, adding he had no idea whether or not they had developed ‘understanding’ with each other.

He said the police had recovered a suicide note from the pocket of Hassan stating: “I have an affair with Sidra for the last three years but her parents had refused my marriage proposal despite my sending parents to them. Najam is the main hurdle in the way of my marriage with Sidra. I am going to kill both of them and committing suicide.”
