KARACHI, Dec. 17: A BASF plant to manufacture chemicals for the construction industry was inaugurated on Wednesday at Landhi by German Consul General in Karachi Dr Christian Brecht.

Senior executives Dr Tilman Krauch, president, Regional Functions and Country Management, Mark Volmer Group vice-president responsible for BASF Construction Chemicals Asia Pacific and the managing director of Pakistan BASF Quazi Sajid were also present on the occasion.

“The plant will formulate a broad range of product systems,’’ Quazi Sajid informed the gathering of BASF products buyers and executives of his company. He said the products range from concrete admixtures to alkali-free accelerators for underground construction, waterproofing systems, precision grouting systems, concrete repair systems and protective flooring systems.

The BASF is involved in major construction projects, including the Lowari Tunnel project being taken up at a cost of Rs8 billion (79 million euros) that will facilitate all weather transportation from the mineral-rich Chitral to Peshawar and will reduce the 14-hour drive to almost half.

A new office is being commissioned on Thursday in Islamabad to service customers in the Northern region.

BASF is doing business in Pakistan for the last 40 years and offers as many as 800 chemical products to the textile and leather industry and other manufacturing sectors.
