ISLAMABAD, Dec 17: The government has said that there is sufficient stock of both urea and DAP in the country and 80 per cent of urea is being acquired from the domestic resources.

A senior official of ministry of food, agriculture and livestock (Minfal) said here on Wednesday that the total demand of urea is 3.6 million tons, while a stock of 3.8 million tons of urea is available in the country.

The government imported additional 0.2 million tons urea to ensure smooth supply of the commodity to the farmers, he added.

He said the government was providing urea and DAP to the farmers at subsidised rates in order to achieve the wheat production target of 25 million tons.

He said 225,000 tons of imported urea would reach Pakistan by January 25.

The official said the government was taking strict action against hoarders of urea and has so far registered 200 cases against them. —APP
