HYDERABAD, Dec 15: The Sindh government has constituted a three-member committee to inquire into the cause of breach in the reservoir and lagoons on Dec 10 day.
Reportedly, a breach was caused in the Water and Sanitation Agency’s (Wasa) Qasimabad reservoir, last Wednesday.
Secretary Services Shafique Ahmed Khoso would head the inquiry committee with DCO Hyderabad Ali Ahmed Lund and Special Secretary local government Suleman Chandio as members, said the Sindh Chief Secretary’s notification. The committee had been assigned to look into the cause of incident which affected four villages - Sajan, Detho, Khan Mohammad Mehar, Wahid Palari and Misri Shaikh.
The committee would ascertain those responsible and assess loss, to both public and private properties and rehabilitation Programme. It shall furnish report within 10 days to the government and would be free to co-opt any other member it needed to supplement.
The committee had been constituted on the orders of the Chief Minister who took serious notice of the incident, besides directing immediate rescue
of the people and ensuring them some relief, said DCO Hyderabad.
The report would be submitted to the government in stipulated time for taking action.
WATER SUPPLY: Hyderabad District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil had directed the officials concerned to ensure uninterrupted water supply to people of Hyderabad during the annual closure of canals from December 22 to January 8.
He issued these instructions during a visit to the filter plant lagoons in Jamshoro where water would be directly pumped into the lagoons from River Indus during the closure of canals.
He directed consultants and concerned officials to ensure the storage of 100 million gallons water which was wasted during the breach in the lagoon and appointed the DCO to supervise arrangements.
He also inspected the breach area of lagoon and directed appointing a special team for inspecting lagoons and submitting a report daily on preventive and precautionary measures. Embankments of the lagoon should be strengthened and made foolproof, he said.
He told the HDA officials to maintain a close liaison with the Irrigation Department for continued water supply.
