NEW YORK, Dec 15: Armonk, a town of some 12,000 people north of New York city, has agreed to place the Islamic crescent and star, alongside the Christmas tree and Jewish menorah after its Muslim residents approached the city council, a newspaper report said.

The town council also said if there were any Buddhists or Hindus in town who wanted to see their symbols, it would welcome their applications.

The holiday display, sponsored by the town of North Castle, which includes the village of Armonk, is among a growing number of places around the country that include the symbol for Islam.
