Protest against assault on AJK leader

MUZAFFARABAD, Dec 13: Hundreds of people staged a demonstration in the hometown of AJK Prime Minister Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan on Saturday to protest against the assault on an ‘outspoken’ leader of the area for his criticism of government's alleged corruption.

The demonstrators, who were led by Maj (retired) Latif Khalique (JI), Raja Sajjad Ahmed (PML), Raja Qayyum (PPAJK) and others, took round of the Dhirkot bazaar which was shut as a mark of protest and chanted slogans against the hooliganism of a set of people “at the behest of prime minister.”

On Friday, Taimaur Abbasi, coordinator of the AJK premier, and his accomplices had assaulted and injured Abdur Razzaque Abbasi, his son Mamoon and two elder brothers outside the Ghaziabad mosque. The attackers were alleged to have been offended by the speeches of Mr Razzaque, who is in his seventies, against the alleged maladministration during the present setup and loot and plunder in development projects. An FIR was lodged against the accused in the Dhirkot police station on Friday evening.—Staff Correspondent
