PESHAWAR, Dec 8: The transporters taking advantage of the Eid rush are overcharging passengers intending to reach home on the occasion.
During a visit to the Peshawar Bus Terminal and General Bus Stand Haji Camp it was observed that a large number of passengers intending to reach their homes, were forced to pay extra due to dearth of enough transport vehicles.
The people who arrived here from different areas through the inter-city transport like Swat, Dir and Batkhela said that the operators of different public transport vehicles overcharged them.
A passenger, Liaquat Ali, who arrived here from Swat, said the people faced great problems as the transporters were not ready to come to Peshawar and those who were willing were charging passengers at their own free will.
He said that the people of the area did not know as to what was the actual fare from Mingora to Peshawar because the transporters had no fare list with them.
Liaquat Ali said most of the problems were created due to the day-to-day curfews in the areas.
Another passenger, who came from Chakdarra, Dir, said the government had announced reduction in the transport fare, but transporters were charging the same old fare.
He said passengers were charged Rs180 from Chakdarra to Peshawar, while the actual fare was Rs120.
He said the people who came from Batkhela were also forced to pay the same fare due to the Eid rush.
