SUKKUR, Dec 7: The secretary general of the Sindh chapter of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, Senator Khalid Mehmood Soomro, said on Sunday that he saw the Mumbai carnage as part of a larger conspiracy aimed at creating a pretext for the US, Israel and India to attack Pakistan.

After a meeting with Ameer of Jamaat-i-Islami Sindh Asadullah Bhutto, he said that if India used it as a pretext for aggression it would face strong retaliation from Pakistanis who were united for the defence of their homeland.

He said that the people, who were disrupting peace in Karachi, were trying to divide Sindh. Anti-Islamic forces first attacked Iraq and then Afghanistan under the pretext of 9/11 and now they were conspiring against Pakistan, he said.

Asadullah Bhutto said that the nation was united and capable of facing any challenge. The attack by the US, Israel and India would prove disastrous for them, he said.

PPP DISSENT: The secretary general of the Pakistan People’s Party Punjab’s Labour Bureau, Mehboob Hussain Zaki, reached Mirpur Mathelo on foot from Rawalpindi on Sunday. He is staging a one-man long march in protest against party’s policies.

Mehboob Hussain told journalists at the press club in Mirpur Mathelo that he had started the march from Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi on Nov 1, 2008 and after visiting different cities and towns of Punjab reached Sindh after 36 days.

He said that Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had formulated pro-labour policies and her party’s manifesto was “Roti, Kapra aur Makaan”, but after her assassination, her party had forgotten her policies.

He, therefore, decided to march to Garhi on foot to register protest.
