Woman killed for ‘honour’

Published December 7, 2008

SAHIWAL, Dec 6: A young woman has been killed by her elder brother and brother-in-law in the name of honor in a village here, it’s learnt.

Twenty-one-year-old Irshad of 106/9-L village had an affair with her neighbour Nawaz. She eloped with Nawaz a few months ago. Later, village elders brought her back on the promise that she would be married to the man of her choice. Her father Muhammad Ramzan agreed to the elders’ decision, but her brother disagreed. Anyway, the promise was not fulfilled.

Disappointed at the situation, Irshad again eloped with Nawaz. Her elder brother Umer Daraz caught her at the general bus stand and brought her back home. Daraz and his brother-in-law Ghulam Farid axed Irshad to death when she was asleep late on Friday night.

Dera Rahim police registered a murder case against Daraz and Farid on the report of Irshad’s father and arrested Farid.

KILLED: Young man Umer Hayat was killed by Allah Ditta, Muhammad Azim and their accomplices over a property dispute in a village.
