Formation of peace body suggested

MIRPURKHAS, Dec 5: Speakers at a peace conference have called for the establishment of peace committees comprising representatives of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the Awami National Party (ANP), other parties and area notables to maintain peace in the city.

The conference was called by DPO Mirpurkhas at police complex here on Friday where the representatives from different walks of life suggested various measures to maintain peace and harmony in the city. They said that we were residents of this city and wanted peace.

They said that Mirpurkhas district should be made an arms-free area and nobody should approach DPO to get any arrested person released.

They said that aerial firing in marriage ceremonies had caused deaths of a number of youths and demanded a ban on aerial firing on such occasions.

MQM MPA Fahim Ahmed Altafi and Mirpurkhas Zila Naib Nazim Dr Zafar Ahmed Kamali said that the MQM would cooperate with the administration and the government to maintain peace in the district and the province.

PPP MPA Shamim Ara Panhwar and PPP district president Haji Noor Hassan Chandio said that their party had been making efforts to maintain peace in the country. District President ANP Mirpurkhas Abdul Sattar Khan said that his party believed in peace.
