KARACHI: Works of Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture alumni — photographers, sculptors, architects, painters, ceramists, artists and textile designers — were put on display at the school on Wednesday.

Titled “15-An IVS Alumni Collective”, the exhibition is part of the celebrations marking 15 years of the Alumni Association.

The exhibition, organised with the help of a committee comprising the incumbent and former governors of the institution, is planned to be held every year on a regular basis at the IVS.

The like-minded artists and designers forming the association want their works remain showcased at the institution that, according to them, “exists because of its students”. Two of the outstanding ones — Bilal Maqsood and Amean J — have earned fame locally as well as internationally, former in music and the latter in photography.

Bilal Maqsood’s untitled painting appeared insightful. “When I’m not involved in music, I express my emotions through colour. Most of my work is untitled.”

Amean J’s play of light and shade in his photos is masterful. His bare trees present an eerie feeling of something sinister that is about to happen. “Not content with wishing things to be different, I look through the lens and record them different ly.” One presentation that caught the attention of many visitors was the huge ball-shaped object made out of kitchen drain covers. The artist, Adeela Suleman, left the viewers interpreting what the object stands for.

Eye-catching among the other exhibits were a photo of a doll with men surrounding her, a painting done on plastic bags, a photo painting of an artist coming out of her cocoon of different thoughts, a crocodile with man-made objects in sepia tone and different accessories with bold designs.

The exhibition will continue till Dec 20.
