RAWALPINDI, Dec 3: The High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Rawalpindi chapter here on Wednesday called for resignation by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Abdul Hameed Dogar for allegedly violating the norms of being a judge.

The demand was made by HCBA President Sardar Asmatullah and General Secretary Malik Siddique Awan while holding a news conference at the Rawalpindi Press Club.

The representatives of the protesting lawyers’ fraternity said the chief justice had allegedly been found involved in the malicious act of increasing the marks of his daughter to get her admission in a medical college.

According to them, the act is totally illegal and against the norms and practices of a judge of superior judiciary. “As a chief justice he should either prove the allegations wrong or stand down setting a praiseworthy example for others to follow.”

They said the quarters concerned should take the revelation seriously and further probe the matter. They vowed that the lawyers’ struggle for the restoration of deposed judges would be resumed with full force after Eid, saying the attorneys would attend the convention in Sargodha where deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry would address them.

Meanwhile, Islamabad High Court (IHC) Judge Justice Mohammad Munir Paracha issued notice to the controller general of prices in a contempt case filed by Advocate Kokab Iqbal to control the prices of everyday use commodities.

The petitioner had said that in his earlier petition filed in Ramazan the controller general of prices in person appeared before the court and assured that “every possible effort will be made to control the prices of fruit and vegetables, particularly in the holy month of Ramazan”.

In spite of the above statement, no effort was made to control the prices, the petitioner said.
