PROTEST RALLY: Scores of CNG auto-rickshaw owners staged a protest rally against the government for providing them inferior quality of vehicles on lease through banks.

Reports said the protesters gathered at the General Bus Stand from where they reached the Divisional Commissioner Office after marching through GT Road and Civil Hospital Road. Carrying banners and placards, they also chanted slogans against the government.

They informed the commissioner that they had deposited Rs14,350 each in advance to banks to get vehicles on lease while they were paying Rs3,056 installment per month.

Owners of vehicles alleged that these vehicles were of inferior quality and they had to incur a heavy amount on its repair and replacement of parts almost every other day. They said it had become extremely difficult for them to pay the monthly installment under these circumstances.

They demanded that banks should either return their advance payment or change the inferior quality auto-rickshaws as they could not afford to run them.

The protesters dispersed peacefully after the commissioner assured them that their problems would be resolved.
