ISLAMABAD, Dec 1: At the all-party conference to be held here on Tuesday, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will inform the leaders of almost all political parties of the country about the efforts being made by the government to defuse the tension created by allegations levelled by India against Pakistan in the aftermath of the Mumbai terror attacks.

The conference has been convened by the prime minister to create consensus on national security issues. Sources said that although a one-point agenda has been circulated, there was a possibility that the leaders would also discuss efforts being made by the government to curb terrorism in an effort to formulate a plan to effectively tackle the problem.

It is learn that an offer made by some militants fighting Pakistani troops in tribal areas to make peace with the government and to strengthen its hands in the event of an aggression by a foreign country would also come up for discussion.

In all, 58 leaders of political parties, both inside and outside parliament, including the Pakhtoon and Baloch nationalists, have been invited. Sources in the Prime Minister’s House said that all political leaders had confirmed their participation.
