LAHORE, Dec 1: Afghan FC overwhelmed Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) 2-1 in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) match played at the Government High School Ground in Chaman on Monday.

The first 16 minutes of the match proved sensational. Striker Hayatullah mesmerized the airliners with a goal in the 105th second when he leapt high above the others to send in a perfectly-timed header following winger Mahmood Khan’s sweeping the ball across the area. It was Hayatullah’s eighth goal in the event.

PIA’s leading scorer Shakir Lashari got his 16th goal when he sent in a scorching 40-metre drive in the 14th minute to make it 1-1, leaving keeper Jahangir Khan bemused below the bar.

It turned out to be PIA’s 38th and last goal in the ongoing event as hardly two minutes had elapsed when midfielder Aminullah drove the match-winner off spearhead Jadeed Khan’s through pass.

Currently seventh on the points table (with 32 points), the Nasrullah Khan-led PIA is the third team to have completed all of their 26 league matches. Meanwhile, Afghan FC play their final league match, with Habib Bank Limited on Thursday (Dec 4).
