THATTA, Dec 1: Hundreds of male and female feeder teachers affiliated with the National Commission for Human Development and Sindh Development Support Programme, took out a big procession and staged a sit-in on the National Highway to protest against non-release of their salaries for the last couple of months here on Monday. The vehicular traffic remained suspended for two hours.

Led by Samreen Memon, Majid Samoon and Khaliq Guggo, the protesters after marching on the main thoroughfares of Thatta town and staging a sit-in on the National Highway, reached at Makli where they staged a sit-in outside the DCO office.

Meanwhile, heavy contingent of police led by DSP Nooruddin Sanjrani struck the site and attempted to get dispersed the protestors. Neelam Abbasi, a social and political worker, presented her bangles to the DSP, this infuriated the police which scuffled with some female teachers.

The DCO, Dr Laique Memon was repeatedly approached through teachers envoys to listen the teachers grievances but for four hours, he kept on refusing meeting with the teachers representatives.

At last, Arbab Wazir Ahmed Memon president PPP district Thatta was approached who arrived at the site, held deliberation with the representatives of enraged teachers and on assurance of early payments of their salaries, some 1120 NCHD feeder teachers, 300 SDSP teachers and scores of their sympathisers dispersed peacefully.
