KARACHI, Nov 30: The reigning Indian national champion in Seniors 35-plus category, K.V.M. Murthy, left for Mumbai on way to Hyderabad (Deccan) by a Sri Lankan airlines flight on Sunday night.

During his week-long stay in the city, he featured in the Pakistan International Seniors world ranking tennis championship which concluded at the Karachi Club on Saturday.

He made his exit in quarter-final in the 35-plus singles to Zulfiqar Hakeem, the very next day after the Mumbai carnage.

In doubles, the Murthy and Ejaz Sarhadi pair went down to Shahid Hussain and Asif Ismail in three-set semi-final.

He told Dawn from the Quaid-i-Azam International Airport before boarding the flight that he felt sorry for not delivering his best due to bloodshed back home.

He also thanked the organisers for their hospitality during his stay in the town.—Sports Correspondent
