KARACHI, Nov 27: Thousands of incoming and outgoing vehicles queued up bumper to bumper for nearly two hours on Super Highway late on Thursday night as panic gripped Sohrab Goth and adjoining areas after armed men opened fire on incoming vehicles near Al Asif Square.

Witnesses said a group of armed men, mainly from Afghan settlements, converged on the highway at around 10.30pm and pelted the passing vehicles with stones.

They said that the armed men opened fire on the slowing traffic and two men in a Suzuki car coming from Sukkur suffered injuries.

The witnesses said that soon the entire area echoed with heavy gunfire.

Some people in the area told Dawn that the attack on the traffic was a reaction to the torching of a dumper that had run over an elderly woman in Surjani Town earlier in the evening.
