GUJRAT, Nov 27: Revenue officials, chiefly patwaris, are engaged in gross irregularities in the distribution of flour bags to tandoors of the “Sasti roti scheme” in the district. Two patwaris of Lalamusa, Kharian tehsil, involved in irregularity and sale of the subsidised flour in the open market, were suspended from service by Kharian Deputy District Officer (revenue) Rai Manzoor Nasir who also ordered an inquiry into the matter on Thursday.

Sources in the revenue department said DDO Nasir had paid a surprise visit to Lalamusa on Wednesday to check the provision of the Rs2 roti at tandoors.

They said the DDO checked 25 tandoors and found that nans were being sold instead of roti despite the fact that patwaris were receiving flour bags for these tandoors on the subsidized rate.

Owners of tandoors told the DDO that they were forced to sell nan because they never ever received the subsidized flour bags.

Patwaris Ashraf and Shahbaz failed to satisfy the DDO when he quizzed them about the gross irregularities in the distribution of the subsidized flour to tandoors.

The DDO immediately suspended both patwaris and deputed Kharian tehsildar Nadeem Masood as an inquiry office to probe the matter.

The sources said both patwaris had registered these tandoors for the subsidised flour, but they never provided the commodity to their owners.

“In the official record these tandoors are on the list of receiving the subsidised flour quota, but patwaris sell their (tandoors) share of quota in the open market,” they claimed.
