FAISALABAD, Nov 27: Police claimed on Thursday to have killed two criminal brothers in a ‘shootout’ near Sheroana Bridge in Jaranwala Sadar police precincts.

Police said Afzal of Chak 67-GB informed Rescue 15 that two dacoits had snatched his motorcycle and a cash of Rs1,800 when he was on his way to Chak 21-GB.

Police cordoned of different areas and stopped them near Sheroana Bridge. On seeing the police, the dacoits opened fire. During a crossfire, both the robbers were killed on the spot. They were identified as Yousaf and Ashraf alias Acho of Khokar Pind, Bhati Chowk, Lahore.

Police seized two guns, live rounds, two bags and Rs1,800 in cash from their possession.

Police claimed that both of them were wanted by Sattiana, City and Jaranwala Sadar police in eight cases. This was the second ‘encounter’ within a span of two days. Earlier, the police had gunned down four criminals on Wednesday on Dasoha Road, in the limits of Dijkot police station.

Police said the criminals had gunned down three people Wali Mohammad, his son Nadeem and a relative Imran during a dacoity on July 6 this year in Jaranwala city. Five relatives of the deceased, including three women, had also sustained injuries in the dacoity.

POWER SUPPLY: The Faisalabad Electricity Supply Company (Fesco) will introduce underground electricity distribution system at two main bazaars in the Clock Tower locality at the cost of Rs17.8 million.

The system is already working successfully at the Chiniot Bazaar, Fesco chief Ahmad Saeed Akhtar said here on Thursday.

He said now the company would install this system at the congested Jhang and Montgomery bazaars and transformers, overhead lines and electricity poles were being removed from there for this purpose. He said the project would be completed in the first week of December.

Akhtar said 30 transformers would be installed in these bazaars -14 in Jhang Bazaar and 16 in Montgomery Bazaar. The underground cable had already been laid there and the district government had released Rs9 million for the system at Jhang Bazaar and Rs8.8 million for Montgomery Bazaar.

The Fesco chief said 9,000 electricity connections would be provided to consumers in these bazaars after completion of the project.
