GHALANAI, Nov 24: Five militants were killed and six others injured in clashes with security forces in Pandyali tehsil of Lower Mohmand tribal region on Monday.

According to sources, said five suspected militants were arrested in the troubled area.

The sources said a group of militants attacked a security checkpoint in Pandyali with rockets on Monday. The troops returned fire and killed the five militants.

The security forces also attacked Taliban positions in Garang and Lowishah with artillery from Ghalani.

Meanwhile, a tribal jirga of Haleemzai tribesmen handed over 17 suspected Taliban to the political administration and gave assurance that they would neither carry out any anti-government activity, nor support the militants.

The 60-member jirga of Wali Beg, Hamzakhel, and Kadikhel sub-clans of Haleemzai tribe also assured cooperation to the political administration.
