LAHORE, May 11: Majority of the government employees are observing two half days every week instead of one.

The government has allowed its employees Fridays as half day for offering Juma prayers. A Majority of the employees, however, avail a second half day on every Saturday by leaving the offices with the start of the Zohr prayer break at around 1:30pm. Those belonging to outstations observe the second weekly half day in particular.

The government offices wear a deserted look after 1:30pm every Saturday as majority of the employees leave to be with their families to enjoy a two-day weekend. Only one or two employees are present in some sections of the offices while some are completely deserted. More clever among the employees slip from their offices on the pretext of performing field duty to pre-empt any punitive action against them.
