Sugarcane crushing

MIRPURKHAS, Nov 23: Three of the five sugar mills in Mirpurkhas district have started crushing cane while cane growers are busy in harvesting their crops.

Tharparkar Sugar Mill started crushing in the first week of this month while Al-Abbas Sugar Mill, Mirwah Gorchani, began crushing on November 19 and at present each of them was crushing 1,00,000 maunds of cane daily. Mirpurkhas Sugar Mill, the oldest in the district, started crushing on Nov 20. Najma and Digri Sugar Mills have not started crushing as yet.

A large number of sugarcane growers was seen at these three mills to get indents for cane supply. Tractor trolleys and trucks loaded with sugarcane were parked outside these mills.—BoC
