HYDERABAD, May 11: The vice chancellor of Sindh University, Jamshoro, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, on Saturday laid the foundation stone of the buildings of higher technical central laboratories and extension of Dr M.A Kazi Institute of Chemistry and Institute of Mathematics and Computer Sciences at the Jamshoro campus.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that Sindh University was the first university of the country which had started new projects from its own resources and added that the faculty members and the students must utilise these resources fully in the research work and promotion of higher education.

The project director, Asif Ali Kazi, briefed the vice chancellor about the projects of the university which had been started from the self-finance scheme funds.

The estimated cost of the higher technical centre resources laboratories is Rs8.1 million while the extension project of Dr M.A Kazi institute of Chemistry and Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science is Rs2.8 million and Rs2.7 million.

It may be pointed out here that the ministry of Science and Technology is providing financial assistance for the laboratories below Rs40 million for equipment and laboratory material to promote and facilitate the advancement of science and technology in the country with a view to producing technical manpower.

The higher technical central laboratories will have eight science laboratories, seminar hall, multi media centre and a conference hall for 250 people. It will be completed in 18 months.

The foundation stone ceremony of the three projects was attended by deans of various faculties, teachers, officers and students.

For the promotion of computer literacy, the university is also setting up information technology centre at Dr.Nabi Bux Baloch Model School of the university at Hyderabad which will cost Rs3 million.

The students of the school from class I to class XII will benefit from this centre which will have five computer laboratories.

ADMISSIONS: The director admissions of Sindh University, Mohammad Saleh Rajar, announced here on Saturday that the date for admissions in B.Pharmacy, post-graduate diploma in Pharmacy Management and Pharmaceutical Marketing for the academic session 2002, under economical self-finance scheme (evening programme) in the institute of Pharmacy of the university, had been extended upto May 31.

He has further announced that those students who have qualified intermediate in pre-medical group with minimum grade C from any intermediate Board of the country can apply for admission.

The admission forms are available at the branches of the Habib Bank Limited, old campus, Hyderabad and Jamshoro on the prescribed forms.

Date will not be extended and all required qualification documents, indicated in the admission form, must be attached along with the admission forms, the director said.
