LAHORE, Nov 21: More than ten staff members of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) — majority of them from coaching department - are likely to be sacked by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in the next couple of days.

Reliable sources told Dawn on Friday that NCA Director Aamir Sohail, a former Test opener, has decided to sack all those staff members who alongside the NCA, are also working in other departments and are drawing salaries from both sections.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that Aamir, who joined the academy after Mudassar Nazar had resigned to join the ICC Global Academy, had already reduced the NCA budget from Rs 260 million to Rs 160 million as the PCB had decided to cut short the administrative budget by 50 percent.

Under that plan, a 35 officials working as Regional Development Managers and Officers and their affiliated staff in 11 Regions had already been sacked on Thursday by the board.

More suspensions are on the card since a large number of 700-plus staff is currently working in the PCB, about half of whom were appointed by Dr Nasim Ashraf, the previous chairman of the Board.

Moreover, the federal government had decided to audit the PCB accounts from 2002-2005 period for which a two-member team is likely to start work from Monday.

A representative of the federal auditor general office had visited the PCB offices on Thursday and met Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Arif Kitchelo to finalize the programme of the audit.
