Women legislators in NA form caucus

Published November 22, 2008

ISLAMABAD, Nov 21: A “Women parliamentary caucus” was formed at a meeting chaired by the National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza here on Friday to protect women’s rights and work for their empowerment.

According to a press release, the caucus will strive to achieve a broad-based consensus among women legislators on an agreed agenda for women’s development, empowerment and emancipation and enable them to work above party lines. The caucus will enhance the role of women parliamentarians in proposing gender sensitive legislations and reviewing and amending discriminatory laws and practices.
