ISLAMABAD, Nov 20: Differences between the two factions in the PML-Q intensified on Thursday when the dissident leaders led by Hamid Nasir Chattha refused to recognise the list of CEC members circulated by the Chaudhry group.
The 30-member central executive committee will meet on Saturday and the 200-member central working committee on Sunday.
From the notes exchanged by the groups it appears that the Chattha faction almost lost the case for a change in party leadership after the Chaudhrys played their trump card and convened meeting of both the committees to seek a vote of confidence for policies and actions of Chaudhry Shujaat.
Party’s finance secretary Imtiaz Ranjha said the list of 30 members provided by the Chattha group carried no weight because it was the prerogative of the president to finalise the list of invitees.
The CWC is said to have been convened with a clear intention of seeking support of its majority for Chaudhry Parvaiz Elahi as candidate for the top party post in place of Chaudhry Shujaat.
A series of behind-the-door efforts were made to bring the two groups closer on the list as a second list of 45 people was also forwarded to Mr Chattha who did not accepted it.Insiders said that senior party leader Iqbal Dar had been sent to the residence of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain to discuss the issue.
And, he was told that if the Chattha faction had objection to the any CEC member the matter should be raised at the meeting and the person would be asked to leave.
The Chattha group, however, saw it as a plan to pit it against CEC members at a time when it needs their support.
