KHANEWAL, Nov 20: The construction of Faisalabad-Khanewal and Khanewal-Lodhran expressways will begin this financial year, says Multan Division Commissioner Syed Muhammad Ali Gardezi.

“We have discussed these projects with the authorities and work on these will begin soon, surely this fiscal year,” Gardezi told Dawn at the District Administration Complex here on Thursday.

He said divisional commissioners would coordinate with regional police officers and district police officers on law and order. He said there was not a single case of dengue in the division.

Earlier, the commissioner while chairing a high-level meeting of the government officials, warned that the officials involved in corruption would have to go behind the bars. “Special monitoring teams (SMTs) will check each and every development activity and will report to the commissioner’s office in this connection on a regular basis,” Mr Gardezi said.

He said the commissioner’s powers included transfer and postings of grade-18 or above officers, writing annual confidential reports (ACRs), hearing of appeals being heard by the Board of Revenue at present, monitoring of the government departments.

During the meeting, heads of various government departments gave presentations to the commissioner about the performance of their respective departments.
