GUJRAT, Nov 19: People are facing problems after demolition of a bridge on an open drain at GTS Chowk a month ago.
The Gujrat Tehsil Municipal Administration demolished the bridge a month ago to ensure smooth flow of the sewerage water. After the bridge demolition, traffic between GTS Chowk and Fowara Chowk went out of gear, and the authorities said traffic would be restored on this section within a week.
The bridge was a busy passage because of two colleges for women, some schools and a government maternity hospital in the surroundings. Now traffic jams are a routine at Fowara Chowk and GTS Chowk, especially at peak hours.
The traffic police have failed to keep the traffic in order.
A TMA official says big iron pipes covering the PTCL fiber optic and main lines are major hurdles in the construction of the new bridge on the drain. He says the PTCL has sought Rs10 million from the TMA for the removal of these lines. However, the construction work at the bridge has been initiated without removing PTCL lines, but the bridge has to be built at a higher level.—Correspondent
