Residents protest house demolition

TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 19: Residents of Aftab Town in Gojra took out a procession on Wednesday in protest against the demolition of 100 houses by the Gojra Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA). They blocked Gojra-Jhang Road for one hour and chanted slogans against the tehsil nazim.

A TMA official said the government had ordered the TMA to get vacated all state land from encroachers.

CONFERENCE: The Labour Party Pakistan (LPP) announced that an international labour conference would be held in Toba Tek Singh in Jan next to be addressed by leaders and workers from all over Pakistan and trade unionists from abroad.

LPP leader Farooq Tariq made the announcement in a protest meeting of brick kiln workers. He allegedly kiln owners in the district did not pay government notified rate of Rs442 per 100 bricks to labourers.

HONOUR KILLING: A man killed his sister alleging her of affair in Gojra, police said. Sarwar Ansari suspected that his sister Yasmeen, 22, had illicit relation with a man of the locality. Late on Tuesday he shot her dead. Police were raiding for the arrest of the accused.

RICKSHAW: Rickshaw drivers staged a demonstration outside the bus stand in Kamalia in protest against the collection of parking fees by a contractor of the TMA. Drivers’ Union President Baboo Muhammad Sadiq said the Punjab chief minister had withdrawn the orders of recovery of parking fees from rickshaw drivers but in Kamalia the contractor was charging the fee.

KIDNAPPED: Thirteen people allegedly kidnapped a woman and one of them contracted ‘forced Nikkah’ with her, police said. Nawan Lahore police registered a case against Akhtar and his 12 accomplices who on March 13, kidnapped Asia Perveen, the daughter of Ghafoor, from Chak 333-JB. They took her to an undisclosed location where Akhtar alleged raped her and then forcibly got her signatures on a Nikahnama.

SASTI ROTI: Faisalabad Commissioner Zahid Saeed has directed the Toba Tek Singh DCO and other officials to make ‘Sasti roti’ plan successful and include public representatives in committees to check the provision and sale of 100 gram roti at Rs2 in the district. Addressing a meeting of officials, he stated that the officials not comply with government directions will be taken to task.

NO BAIL: Kamalia Additional District Sessions Court Judge Rana Abdul Qayyum rejected bail plea of police inspector Jamshed Iqbal Chishti in a murder case.

He was arrested for killing Lahore Ferozepur Road Government Model High School headmaster Attaullah a few months ago.
