LARKANA, Nov 19: The Larkana circuit bench of the Sindh High Court on Wednesday summoned Larkana Taluka Nazim Yasir Junejo to appear in court on Nov 25 over a contempt of court petition regarding removal of encroachments from the municipal limits.
M. Anwar Channa, a lawyer, who filed the petition, contended that the taluka nazim had committed contempt of court by violating the orders of Sindh High Court passed on March 22, 2007 to remove encroachments.
The petitioner said that the contemnor had been directed specifically to remove illegal encroachments and unauthorised occupations from public streets within the limits of taluka municipal administration (TMA).
But even after passage of one and a half year, the taluka nazim did nothing to remove them, he said and alleged that he was in fact involved in such encroachments.
He said that he had approached him several times and requested to comply with court orders but he did not move into action in this regard wilfully and deliberately.
Mr Channa who had filed the petition in the Sindh High Court in November 2006 against massive encroachments in the city has said in his petition that encroachments were mushrooming on a massive scale and toilets, motor garages and ladders had been built upon public streets, causing great inconvenience to people.
The court had asked the district police officer on March 22, 2007 to assist taluka nazim and taluka administration in clearing the city of encroachments and controlling law and order.
The court had asked the petitioner to approach taluka nazim and municipal administration and point out to them unauthorised occupation of public streets.
Mr Channa again moved the court when the taluka nazim failed to comply with court orders, invoking article 204 of the Constitution.
