KARACHI, Nov 19: As many as 42 vehicles – seven automobiles and 35 motorbikes – and 44 mobile phone handsets were taken away by Wednesday evening in different parts of the city.
Police sources said that in 43 armed hold-ups bandits snatched two cars, 16 motorcycles and 25 cellular phones in the police limits of Moch Koh, Sharea Fasial, Saeedabad, Gulberg, Soldier Bazaar, Landhi, Awami Colony, Kalri, New Karachi, New Karachi Industrial Area, Shahrah-i-Noorjahan, North Nazimabad, Mithadar and Site.
They said that in most of the armed robberies the bandits also deprived their victims of cash and other personal belongings.
Besides, the sources said, five cars were stolen in the police precincts of Boat Basin, Gulbahar, Preedy and Cantt.
The sources said that as many as 19 motorcycles were stolen within the police limits of Moch Koh, Frere, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, New Town, Zaman Town, Awami Colony, Korangi Industrial Area, Nazimabad, New Karachi, Taimuria, Mominabad, Nabi Bux, Kharadar, Risala and Site.
They said that as many as 87 mobile phones, 39 motorcycles and eight cars were either stolen or snatched at gunpoint on Tuesday in different parts of the city.
Killed by train
A 35-year-old man was killed on the rail tracks when he was hit by an express train near Hara School in Landhi.
The railway police said that the victim, Qadeer Ahmed, son of Abdul Ghani, was crossing the tracks at 4.30pm when 41-U Karakoram Express hit him.
The victim, father of four, was a resident of Korangi No 1 ½ .
