ISLAMABAD, Nov 14: A reduction in the power tariff increase will benefit only the industrial sector and domestic consumers using up to 100 units. It does not offer much relief to the rest of households and commercial consumers.
Under the new tariff structure, there will be a five per cent increase for households consuming up to 100 units.
The increase for domestic consumers using 101 to 450 units will be 18 per cent and for those using 451 to 700 units 23 per cent. The increase is around 30 per cent for consumers using more than 700 units. The tariff increase for the industrial sector will be 13 per cent and for commercial consumers 25 per cent.
The 40 per cent deduction in bills for September and October announced by the government will be adjusted in accordance with the revised rates.
The adjustments will be applicable from September. However, an official told Dawn that the government had asked the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to make adjustments after two months. The authority has also been asked to charge the adjustment in instalments if consumers are not able to pay in one go.
However, a notification of the revised tariff is yet to be issued officially by the water and power ministry or Nepra.
