LAHORE, Nov 12: Two-year-old chestnut filly Notia landed the feature event in impressive style during the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.
Notia, the rank outsider filly from Key Guy out-of-Asilah, bred at Syedah Abida Hussain’s Shah Jewna stud farms, was given a patient ride by riding boy Hidayat Hussain.
She came from behind to flash past the front-runners’ pack in the home stretch and win by three lengths from the mare Bird Fly. Scarlet Empress finished third, another length behind with Brave Heart coming fourth.
The filly Queen Of Sabbowal was withdrawn from the race, leaving 15 runners in the field. This was the sixth and last race of the day.
A race earlier, the four-year-old bay colt Amazing Boy turned out as a strong and reliable favourite to win the supporting event.
Ridden by Atif Javaid and trained by Khushnoor-ur-Rehman, the colt easily beat joint favourite Sun Ray by over five lengths.
The gelding Murad King and the mare Mama Mia finished third and fourth, respectively.
Earlier, the gelding Kamla was withdrawn from the race to cut the field to 16 runners.
The four-year-old colt Shan-e-Aamir impressed greatly in entertaining the high hopes pinned on him by the connections to win the fourth race.
He beat the gelding Silent Assassin by two lengths in a pulsating finish.
Best Owner and Muskan completed the frame.
The bay filly Sana My Love, whose rider adopted attacking Tactics was richly rewarded by winning the third race from Boby Love by about two lengths.
Chestnut mare Alpha Juliet, who be beset with a series of setbacks in earlier three runs showed magnificent improvement to win the second event by over four lengths from Double Victory.
Sana, a rank outsider chestnut mare, came across as strong and sound to have the better of his eight opponents in a closely-contested opener. She beat Independence Day by a length’s margin. Had there been some good rider for Independence Day, there would have been some other story to tell.
The riding boy Naseer Ahmad consolidated his advantage on the riders’ statistics table for the season 2008-09 when he rode home two winners — Alpha Juliet and Sana My Love — in the second and third race. He has now totalled 29 winners and is in a chase, followed by Shahid Rehman with 22 winners.
Among the trainers’ log Sohail Aziz is leading with 19 winners, followed by Alim-ud-Din with 14 and Rashid Latif 13.
The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards took a strong notice of the in and out performance of the mare Lal Pari in the first race. Since she was made to run in unfit conditions, they stopped her entries in the races for six weeks.
Similarly in the second race on the same count, they also stopped Kiss Of Love in races from running for two months. Both ran off the board.
