MUZAFFARGARH, Nov 12: At least 75 acres of land were inundated following a 60-foot-wide breach developed in Tulheri Canal near Mahra Nasheeb, Khanpur, on Tuesday night.

According to Executive Engineer Asghar Dogar local farmers Javed Hussain, Mureed Hussain and Abad Ali had allegedly caused the breach on the right bank of the canal for water theft near Khanpur, RD 47 and 48.

However, the irrigation officials plugged the breach on early Wednesday. The DCO, the DPO and the chief engineer visited the spot. The DPO said the accused would be arrested within 24 hours.

Irrigation SDO Mohammad Athar said the department had lodged an FIR against the accused.

He added that 21 FIRs had so far been lodged in different police stations of Muzaffargarh, Jatoi and Alipur tehsils against water thieves.
