Wheat sown on 2.5m acres so far

LAHORE, Nov 10: Wheat has been sown on a 2.5 million acre area in Punjab, and the activity is picking up by the day, claims provincial secretary (agriculture) Javed Iqbal. Presiding over a meeting of executive district officers (agriculture) here on Monday, he said the government was determined to achieve the target of 20 million ton and all measures were being taken to ensure it.

He asked the EDOs to check supply chain of pesticides and ensure that only quality product get to the farmers. The EDOs should furnish reports about their campaign against spurious pesticides, arrest of pesticide dealers and punishment awarded to them.

The reports would help the department prepare future strategy to ensure supply of quality pesticides to farmers. Similarly, the EDOs should also report on availability of DAP and Urea fertilisers in their respective districts, Mr Iqbal said. —Staff Reporter
