Seminary student tortured

LAYYAH, Nov 10: A teenaged student of a religious seminary landed in a hospital after being brutally tortured by its head teacher at Jaman Shah Town, some 10 kilometers from here on Monday.

Reports said that Muhammad Akram, 15, was learning the Holy Quran by heart at Madressah Jamia Sadiqia in Muhalla Gujranwala.

Narrating his ordeal, Akram alleged that head teacher tortured him severely because he had seen him (the head teacher) sodomizing a student.

“On the orders of the instructor, seminary students overpowered me and trussed up my hands and feet. Later, the teacher gave me a sound thrashing with a baton”, he alleged. He further revealed that this was a common practice in the seminary.

Dr Abdul Majeed Garwan of the DHQ Hospital said that several muscles of Akram’s body had torn and required long treatment.

Denying the allegations, the head teacher said that Akram was punished for not maintaining discipline.
