The neighbours extinguished the fire by wrapping blankets around her burning clothes. By that time, the victim had received severe burns to her face, neck and other body parts.
The neighbours rushed her to the DHQ hospital, from where she was shifted to the burns unit of a hospital in Lahore, where her condition was said to be serious.
Khwaja Manzoor told Dawn on the telephone that neither police nor the doctors at the hospital sent the victim’s clothes for chemical examination to ascertain the nature of the substance thrown on her.
