KARACHI, Nov 7: The Pentangular Cup match between the NWFP and Federal Areas at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar was intriguingly poised as the hosts finished the second day’s play just six runs short of taking first innings lead.

The NWFP were 230 for nine in response to Federal Areas’ 236 all out at draw of stumps on Friday after the visitors added eight runs to their overnight tally of 228 for eight.

Paceman Shakeel-ur-Rehman, who claimed five wickets on the first day, finished with six for 72.Skipper Yasir Hameed was the top-scorer for the NWFP. The Test discard slammed 15 boundaries in scoring 76 off 120 deliveries in a stay of almost three hours.

The NWFP lost three quick wickets, including two in consecutive balls with Yasir Arafat removing Riffatullah Mohmand and Shoaib Khan for ducks.

The NWFP then staged a comeback through Yasir Hameed and Aftab Khan, who added 80 for the fourth wicket. Aftab made 39 with the help of six fours.

Apart from Yasir and Aftab, only Zulfiqar Jan managed to stay for some time. He was still at the crease with 36 to his name.
