KARACHI, Nov 7: League-leaders Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) threw away two precious points when they were held to a 0-0 draw by National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi as Navy managed to keep their first half goal intact till the final whistle to beat Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) 1-0 at the Naval Complex in Islamabad and Pakistan Television failed to utilise a clear-cut chance in their 0-0 draw with Pakistan Steel at the PSB Ground in the three Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches played on Friday.
KRL, who wanted to increase their lead to stay at the top of the table, failed to show dedication upfront and NBP’s defensive strategy overcame them as the match ended in a goalless draw.
In the other match, Navy were the better team throughout. The all-important winning goal was struck by striker Sajjad Ahmed, who raced on to a ball, cut in by winger Asif Mehmood from the goal line and headed it past PIA’s goalkeeper Bilal Rafiq’s outstretched hands.
Meanwhile, PTV got another point when they drew 0-0 with Pakistan Steel. The national channel missed two real sitters in the 19th and 45th minutes. First Naimatullah failed to beat keeper Haroon Rasheed off Tausif’s pass and then Tausif miscued the shot with Haroon in a hopeless position.
Steel also forced chances with Mohammad Maqbool who saw his 16th minute drive being brilliantly saved by keeper Rafiq who had also dived full length to tip Abdul Wahab’s attempt over the bar.
