FAISALABAD, Nov 6: District governments will allocate funds for repair and maintenance of public residences allotted to the families of deceased government employees, Dawn has learnt.

The repair work of such residences will begin right away after Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken a note of deteriorated condition of such houses.

The copy of a letter seen by Dawn issued by the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) to all provincial secretaries, district coordination officers (DCOs) and district police officers (DPOs) reads that Chief Minister’s Secretariat conveyed the concern that government premises and house allotted to the families of deceased government servants were in a poor condition and the chief minister desired that necessary measures be taken for upkeeping and maintenance of such residences.

District governments will arrange funds on their own for the residences.

All provincial secretaries, DCOs and DPOs were told to visit the houses and ensure that quality construction was being carried out.

The chief minister is said to have taken action after scores of families visited Chief Minister’s Secretariat with complaints about dilapidated conditions of their houses.

A district government officer said they did not have any data on such residences needed repair in the district. He said work had been started to ascertain the number of houses and cost of construction work.
