UMERKOT, Nov 6: A large number of students took out a rally and staged a demonstration here on Thursday to protest against alleged irregularities and mismanagement during the test for admissions to MBBS at the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS).
Protestors carrying placards marched on different roads and called for meeting their demands.
Santosh, Pehlaj and many students of Umerkot district appeared in the pre-entry test conducted by the Institute of Business Management Karachi wherein irregularities were noted as students were not even seated on the allotted seat thus given ample opportunities to copy.
They complained that meritorious students were facing the brunt as the institution conducting the test was responsible for these irregularities.
ACCIDENT: A minor boy was crushed to death under the wheels of a speedy truck at Morasio here on Thursday.
According to police, Gulzar Channa 10, was standing with his family on the side of Morasio-Chhachhro Road some 20km from Umerkot when a truck (MNA-2826) coming from Chhachhro hit him. The boy died instantly.
People present at the site of accident captured the driver, Rafique Baloch who later was handed over to Chhachhro police. Police impounded the truck and registered a case of accident against driver Rafique on the complaint of Rasool Bux, father of the deceased.
The family of victim had left village Balhiar in search of labour in irrigated areas as Thar has been struck by drought and inhabitants experiencing acute shortage of drinking water, chaff for livestock and other hardships.
Thari people are leaving the desert for harvesting wheat and other crops in irrigated areas.
